1 The basics The short version
What is this page?

The rules for earning commission by sending people to us

Our affiliate programme pays you a commission when somebody you send to Kids Eyes buys one of our digital products. This page is the agreement between us.

Six things up front, in plain terms.

The rest of the page fills in the detail.

Who am I contracting with?

Kids Eyes LLC, the company that runs the website

The affiliate programme is a commercial, digital arrangement run by Kids Eyes LLC. It has nothing to do with Dr Claire's practice, which delivers the clinical care, and that separation is deliberate. Our Terms of Service explains who in the group does what.

How do I join?

You apply, and we say yes or no

We read applications properly, because this is a paediatric practice and whoever speaks about us is speaking to worried parents.

2 What you earn on And what is excluded, and why
What do I earn on?

Twenty percent on our digital products

You earn 20% on the digital products bought by the people you refer, meaning our online courses and downloadable resources.

What do I NOT earn on?

Physical products for now, and clinical care never

Never on consultations or clinical care

We do not pay anyone a commission for sending us a patient. Not an affiliate, not a professional, not a parent.

Dr Claire is a registered doctor, and the rules of the Health Professions Council of South Africa do not allow a medical practice to pay outsiders for referring patients. That is a rule about protecting patients from being sent somewhere because it earned somebody money, and we agree with it.

So this programme covers our educational products only. Booking a consultation, a screening, surgery or any other clinical service earns no commission, ever, however the customer arrived.

You are very welcome to tell families about Dr Claire. Just do it because it helps them, and know that there is no commission attached to it.

3 How referrals are tracked Your link, and 14 days
How do you know a customer came from me?

They have to sign up through your link. That is the whole thing

Everything rests on one moment: the customer signing up through your unique link. That is what attaches them to you in our system. Nothing else does it.

Stage one: the customer is attached to you.

Stage two: they stay yours for up to 12 months.

After the sign-up, the cookie stops mattering. It does not matter whether they click your link again, clear their cookies, or buy on a different device. From that point it is the customer who is attached to you, not the browser.

No association, no commission

If the customer is not attached to you in our affiliate tracking, no commission is due on anything they ever buy. That is the rule, and it applies however the sale actually came about.

It happens when somebody:

  • signed up directly, without using your link;
  • clicked another affiliate's link first;
  • signed up more than 14 days after clicking yours; or
  • used a device or browser that blocked or cleared the cookie before they signed up.

We cannot attach a customer to you after the fact, even where you are certain they came from you. The record either shows the association or it does not, and we work from the record.

Why can you not just credit me anyway?

Because we cannot see what the tracking did not record

We are not being difficult about this. Where the association was not made, we genuinely cannot tell your referral apart from somebody who found us on Google. If we credited sales on the strength of who asked, the programme would be unworkable within a month.

Tracking is imperfect everywhere, on every platform, and a share of referrals are lost this way no matter how carefully you work. That is why the answer is to get your link in front of people and let them sign up through it, rather than to reconstruct a sale afterwards. Once a customer is attached to you, the 12 months above take over and the problem goes away.

Discount codes. Affiliates are not given a discount code by default. Where we run a promotion we may issue one, case by case, and we will tell you in writing how it is tracked and for how long. Never invent a code, and never advertise a discount we have not published.

4 Earning and getting paid Clearing, clawback and payout
When is commission actually earned?

When the money has cleared, not when the order is placed

You earn commission once your referral's payment has been made, cleared and processed. An order that is placed but not paid earns nothing.

What if my referral gets a refund?

Then the commission never arises. We do not take money back

Commission follows a completed sale. A refunded sale is not a completed sale, so there is no commission on it.

Every course we sell carries a 14-day no-questions refund and Dr Claire's 60-day Do the Work Guarantee. They are real, they are generous, and they get used. Our Course Policy sets them out.

This is exactly why the payout waits for the 60 days to pass. The refund window closes before your commission is worked out, so a refunded sale simply never becomes commission. We are not going to reach into your balance later and take money out of it. That is a deliberate choice, and it is why your first payment takes longer to arrive than it would elsewhere.

The one exception is a chargeback. A bank can reverse a payment months after the fact, long after the guarantee has closed and after we have paid you. The same goes for a sale later found to be fraudulent. In those cases the commission is set against your future earnings. We will tell you when it happens, and we will never invoice you for it.

When and how do I get paid?

Monthly, by PayPal, in US dollars, once the guarantee has run out

It means your first payment takes a while to arrive. It also means we are not clawing money back out of your account months later, which is the worse of the two experiences.

What about tax?

Yours to declare and yours to pay

You are responsible for giving us correct payment details, and for declaring and paying your own tax on what you earn, wherever you live. We are not your employer. We do not deduct tax, pay it over, or account for it on your behalf.

5 How you must promote us Honesty, and the medical line
What are the rules on how I promote you?

Be honest, and let the content do the work

We care about our brand, and more than that we care about the families reading you. So these rules are firm.

Can I give eye-care advice while promoting you?

No. This is the rule we will remove you for

Never make a medical claim

  • Do not diagnose, or suggest what a child's problem is.
  • Do not give eye-care advice, including advice about patching, glasses, screen time or treatment.
  • Do not promise an outcome for any child, or imply that a course will improve a child's vision.
  • Do not imply that Dr Claire has endorsed you, treated somebody you are describing, or given an opinion she has not given.

Point people at our content and let it speak. That is what it is for, and it is written by a paediatric ophthalmologist. A claim you invent about a child's eyes is a risk to that child and to a registered doctor's name, and we will end the arrangement over it.

What promotion methods are not allowed?

Nothing that buys traffic dishonestly

Breaking these rules can cost you your place in the programme and any unpaid commission on the sales affected.

6 Our name and our material What you may use
Can I use your logo and materials?

The approved ones, while you are an active affiliate

We give you a limited, non-exclusive right to use the Kids Eyes name, logo and the approved creatives in your affiliate area, for the sole purpose of promoting us, and only while you are an active affiliate.

Is anything confidential?

Yes. Keep what we share with you to yourself

Anything we share with you that is not public, such as commission arrangements, programme plans, conversion figures or unreleased products, is confidential. Please keep it to yourself, during the arrangement and after it ends.

Any personal information you come across through the programme is handled under our Privacy Policy, and it is never yours to keep, market to, or pass on.

7 Independence and ending And which law applies
Am I working for Kids Eyes?

No. You are independent, and that is the whole arrangement

Being an affiliate does not make you an employee, agent, partner or representative of Kids Eyes. You cannot speak for us, agree anything on our behalf, or hold yourself out as us. You run your own promotion, in your own way, at your own cost.

How much will I earn?

We are not going to pretend we know

We make no promise, projection or guarantee about how much you will earn, or that you will earn anything at all. It depends entirely on your own audience and effort. Anyone in this industry who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

How does it end?

Either of us can stop, and here is what happens to the money

Can the programme change?

Yes, and we tell you when it matters

We may update this policy or the programme. Changes are posted here, and for anything significant we tell active affiliates. Carrying on as an affiliate after a change means you accept it. A rate change never applies backwards to commission you have already earned.

Which country's law applies?

Delaware, like the rest of the digital side

The affiliate programme is a commercial, digital arrangement run by Kids Eyes LLC, and it is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware in the United States of America, with the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Delaware courts. That matches the digital side of our Terms of Service.

Wherever you are, you keep any right your own country's law gives you that cannot be signed away.

How do I get hold of you?

One inbox, and a person on the end of it
